You may be familiar with progressive relaxation. It is similar to hypnosis—in fact, it is considered a transitional process from the waking state to the altered state of consciousness we call hypnotic trance. The process you’re about to experience is a slow hypnotic induction with the intention of calming your bodymind. You should emerge relaxed and at peace. The terms, ‘hypnosis’ and ‘trance’ are emotionally charged words for many people; a result of too many black and white movies in which the hypnotist takes over the mind and/or body of their subject and makes dreadful things happen. It has been established that persons in a hypnotic trance cannot be forced to engage in behavior that is morally wrong for them or could result in injury or even death.
Not everybody experiences this induction the same way. People vary widely in how they respond; ten percent may not experience anything . . . while at the other end of the spectrum are those that enter an altered state of consciousness after the first two opening sentences.
Fortunately, clinical research has shown the effectiveness remains positive for all but the ten percent who experience nothing at all. It is not known why people vary in their responses to suggestion.
This session is all about relaxation and peacefulness. But it will identify those who have great difficulty. If that is you, please send us an email.
During this first session, you need only relax and listen. You may be seated or gently reclining. You should not lie down or assume a position associated with sleep. You need to be free of distractions for the next twenty minutes.
Session 2 - Hypnosis Experience #2
This session is similar to your previous experience. You become the recipient of thoughts of healing and kindness. There will be a few silent periods of one to three minutes. These times will be similar to meditation. If your mind wanders off, simply return your awareness to your breath, and simply puff the thought away.
Today, you will be introduced to thoughts about healing energy—cosmic energy—passing through your body. It is not suggested that you need to believe these concepts. They may be true or they may not be true. It makes no difference. They are manifestations of your mind simply pretending. They are imaginary. What you experience is like reading a novel that takes you to another reality. So intense is the experience that that you feel you’re really there.
This session is the initial stage of fencing off a patch of neurons that will become a unique location in your brain; one where you will visualize whatever comes to consciousness while in trance. And here is an important point: This is not Truth spelled with a capital T. It is like a movie set in your brain that connects to unconscious processes that may function exactly like the Placebo Response. You are doing this intentionally. Your bodymind has the capacity to manifest expectations created in this setting.
Session 3 - Sanctuary First Visit
By now, you have experienced trance in your own unique way. You know how deep relaxation and focused attention work together to make it easier to follow suggestions. Perhaps you found outside sounds becoming muffled and seeming to be further away. Maybe, you found they no longer competed for your attention.
The deep physical relaxation is profound. You relax more deeply than ever before. It’s much different from those times when you simply try to relax while you’re awake. And, unlike sleep, you will be ‘tuned in’ to everything that happens. Physical sensations no longer compete for your attention. You simply let them BE.
In this session you will go to your special place. A place called Sanctuary. This is a place you create using your imagination. It will become an interconnected network of neurons and synapses. The more often you experience it, the more the neurological structures will grow and mature. The process is similar to what a young child experiences with an imaginary friend. The difference is you consciously decide how you will use this evolving mindset. Today you will enter Sanctuary for the first time. It is like a blank canvas that your imagination will paint on until it becomes alive, real, and three dimensional. It will become the location from which all hypnotic work will take place.
Session 4 - Creating your personal sanctuary
In this session, you will return to Sanctuary and design it to be just exactly what you want. As you create a detailed picture, your brain is adding neurons and synapses that begin to wire together so they will fire together. It is basic neuroplasticity and you are the designer.
In time, it will become increasingly detailed and very personal This session will invite you to go to work at creating your personal work of art. When you come to the end of this session’s time, your work here may not be completed. So you may return as often as you want with or without the verbal input.
From now on, future experiences will always start in Sanctuary.
Session 5 - Sanctuary: Healing Experience #1
Preparations are over . . . let the magic begin. Arriving in your sanctuary, you start the experience of gathering the healing energy of the placebo effect. Not unlike taking medication, the important first step is ingesting the substance. But here the energy isn’t something you swallow; rather you absorb it from the radiance of the golden star. The process is like charging a battery. The battery is the recipient of the imaginary cosmic energy that, in your creative imagination, is as effective as the real thing. You don’t ‘make’ anything happen, you ‘let’ the infinite mind energy gather in your bodymind where it will be transformed into a medicine designed specifically for you.
Session 6 - Sanctuary: Healing Experience #2
During this visit you will return to your sanctuary and continue the process started during the last session. In experience #1 you absorbed the gold healing energy and stored it in your bodymind. During this session, you will release that energy so it can seek out health problems that in need of healing. This use of stored healing energy is analogous to what occurs when the body stores and then uses fat for physical energy.
With your repeated visits to sanctuary, you will find it easier to achieve the altered reality of trance where the healing process takes place. Also, with more practice, you will discover you will be able to spend time in your sanctuary during brief breaks throughout the day.
Session 7 - Sanctuary Healing Experience #3
This experience builds energy and healing as it goes along. The gold star’s presence is familiar so it is not your primary focus. You proceed to select two conditions, afflictions, fears, or diseases and using your stored healing energy you transform them into a mere ash residue that you then blow into nothingness. You complete your work running like Rocky and taking flight like an airplane and leaving trance with a bang.
Session 8 - Endurance and Resilience
For this, your final session, two concepts will become permanently imprinted in your bodymind and your sanctuary. Resilience: the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties and trauma. Endurance: the courage, patience, perseverance, and strength, for living through threatening or difficult experiences without yielding or giving way.
